AUSTIN: Women of Oaxaca Speak Out -- NOV 19

Women of Oaxaca Speak Out on the 1st Anniversary of the Popular Uprising

Join La Otra ATX and Resistencia Bookstore on the anniversary of the November Rebellion in welcoming two speakers from Oaxaca: Melina Hernández Sosa and Julia Feliciana Sosa Vásquez.

Melina works with the Unión de Organizaciones de la Sierra Juarez, in the Zapotec communities of of Oaxaca. She has participated in conferences all over the world and Mexico on water and environmental issues. Julia is a retired primary school teacher. Both women are participating in the Asamblea Popular del Pueblo de Oaxaca(APPO) and in the general rebellion that has comprised the social movement in Oaxaca. They participate with and are authorized to speak for the Coordinadora de Mujeres Oaxaqueñas, (COMO), the women's organization of the APPO.

The speakers will discuss the period of the uprising and what has happenned since then--providing context for the recent November 2nd, 2007 demonstrations, repression and arrests in Oaxaca.
