National Planning Committee Conference Call

Dear friends:
You are invited to participate in the first national Planning Committee call for the National Network's National Conference for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, which will take place in Houston on January 18-20, 2008.
Members of our National Board and Council met in Houston on Oct. 13 & 14 to discuss goals and proposals for the conference, and also met with a number of representatives of local groups -- and we came away even more excited and hopeful about the conference. Everyone agreed that it is very timely and needed to assess the state of our movement, help build our capacity, and shape future directions, especially in light of the elections coming up this next year that will thrust the immigration issue into the national spotlight again. But we have a lot of work to do! If you/your organization can play a role in helping to build the conference, please join us on Thursday.
On the national call on Thursday, we will:
- Discuss the goals and objectives of the conference
- Provide an overview of the conference preparations thus far
- Review the current timetable and deadlines
- Discuss the work of various committees, such as: program, publicity and outreach, fundraising, logistics, and Houston host committee
We will share some information sheets before the call on Thursday.
We will also be introducing our national conference coordinator, Ladan Sobhani, who has already been working very hard on a lot of the initial preparations, and is someone whom you will certainly get to know!

Conferencia Nacional para los derechos delas y los inmigrantes y refugiados
Reunión Telefónica del Comité Nacional Planificador
Jueves, 25 de Octubre, 2007 a las 11 a.m. Tiempo Pacífico
Estimadas compañeras y compañeros:
Están invitados a participar en la primera reunión telefónica del Comité Nacional Planificador sobre la conferencia nacional de la Red Nacional Pro Derechos Inmigrantes y Refugiados (NNIRR, National Network National Conference for Immigrant and Refugee Rights), la cual se llevará a cabo en Houston, Texas del 18 al 20 de Enero, 2008.
Miembros de nuestra Mesa Directiva y Consejo Nacional se reunieron en Houston los días 13 y 14 de Octubre para discutir las metas y las propuestas para la conferencia; y también nos reunimos con un número de representantes de organizaciones locales – y volvimos aún más estimulados y esperanzados por la conferencia. Todas y todos estuvimos de acuerdo que tomará lugar a tiempo y proveerá un espacio para evaluar el estado del movimiento, ayudar a construir nuestra capacidad, e informar las direcciones futuras, especialmente por las elecciones del año que viene que seguramente lanzarán el tema de la migración al centro del escenario nacional de nuevo. ¡Pero tenemos mucho trabajo que hacer! Si usted/su organización puede jugar un papel ayudando a construir la conferencia, por favor participe en la reunión este jueves.
En la reunión telefónica nacional del Jueves:
- Discutiremos las metas y objetivos de la conferencia
- Proveeremos un panorama de las preparaciones para la conferencia hechas hasta al momento
- Repasaremos la agenda de preparaciones y las fechas de tope
- Discutiremos el trabajo de los varios comités, como los del: programa, publicidad y enlace, recaudación de fondos, logísticas, y el comité anfitrión de Houston
Compartiremos algunos de los documentos de información antes de la llamada del Jueves.
También estaremos introduciendo a nuestra coordinadora de la conferencia nacional, Ladan Sobhani, que ya ha estado trabajando con mucho afán sobre muchas de las preparaciones iniciales, y alguien que necesitarán conocer!
