You are invited to join LBJ's Progressive Collective and local filmmaker
Matthew Gossage for the Austin premiere of *T. Don Hutto: America's Family
Prison*. This documentary investigates the T. Don Hutto Residential Center,
a privately-owned family detention center that houses immigrants and asylum
seekers. Hutto is located thirty minutes outside of Austin in Taylor, TX,
and houses 512 immigrants, more half of them children.
The immigrants and asylum-seekers at Hutto hail from Central America,
Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Canada. Please join us to hear
their stories and learn about the phenomenon of family detention and efforts
to promote alternatives. The filmmaker and other guest speakers will be
present to discuss the film and issues of immigrant detention.
